Hotel Del Coronado- San Diego, CA

What to say about “the Hotel Del?”- well…it’s always been there for starters. Opening it’s door in 1888, it has catered to many US Presidents and celebrities. Marilyn Monroe famously stayed here during the filming of ‘Some like it Hot’ in 1958. They have elevators that had turn cranes from those early era’s which was operated into the 1990’s out of a sense of historical elegance and class.

The charm of the Del overwhelms you. It took my going to the ocean, in short bursts, over 4 times to get a sense of where I was staying. The historical significance carved onto almost every wall like a living and functioning museum.

We had the opportunity to eat here a few years ago and enjoyed the atmosphere of the pool area and live music scene. It was great to come back to see the scene at night and live music being played with sunset happening in the background.

There was ample food selection from fancy names like Nobu to a pizza restaurant and a grab and go. The breakfast beach-side was unmistakably the best way to start the day.

The Beach? Well take a 15 min walk one way, then come back and appreciate the view of where you are staying, then go the other. The beaches are quiet compared to Mission Beach and Belmont Park.

I found this type of stay surprisingly refreshing. We usually opt for 10mi a day dusk to dawn go go going but to sit and have silence in such beauty has unmistakably made a lasting impact on my soul…and my impressions of the stay here.

Pro-Tip- If you’re feeling flush with cash or know you could make the money make sense- my eye is on the optional add on: Members only Ocean club. Free sodas and food all day and night, preferred lounge chairs which you can check the equivalent prices for next door. It may be worth it!
